About Me & GymHippie
My Story ✌️
So, the man behind the brand! Here’s a quick 101 on me and the GymHippie story so far …
Hi, I’m Luke 😀👋 I was born in February 1988. I’m a true Pisces – apart from all the bad bits, obviously 🤣 For any fellow Myers-Briggs nerds out there, I’m also a strong INFJ. I’ve always felt fairly unconventional and quirky, bit of a personal-growth junkie, bit of a hippie at heart – although it took me a good while to embrace it. I’m certainly not hard to miss at 6’ 5”! I consider myself a warm and friendly person; and I try not to take life too seriously. Other than my girlfriend (I’d be in trouble if I left her out 😆), I have two passions in my life: 1) my band – The Arusha Accord – and 2) my holistic health and fitness enterprise, GymHippie.
I feel blessed to be pursuing the latter as a career, but it wasn’t always this way! An aspiring rock star well into my 20s (and still hopeful 🙏), in 2010 I took a U-turn to study politics and economics at Sussex University – quite a shift! As per the plan, my degree provided me with a springboard into the corporate world, where I was lucky enough to secure a position as a graduate in financial audit. While, admittedly, it was the first time in my life that I felt like a proper adult, the cut and thrust of corporate life wasn’t for me – and, fairly early on, I knew it wasn’t going to make me happy. I knew I needed to change course.
My fitness journey started in my early teens – not through a love of sports (I’ve never been the sporty type!) but, perhaps unusually, almost entirely through a desire to change the shape of my body. In the years since, my determination to better understand and conquer a poor body image has spawned a fascination with all things mind, body and self. And, whilst I’ve learned that true self-esteem comes from within, I still believe a cared-for & capable body certainly helps! In January 2016, my passion for holistic wellbeing collided with a desire to find more meaning in my career – and GymHippie was born 🙌
Since then, I’ve never looked back. The entire process has been an absolute ball, and I’ve loved every minute! Each day is a school day, and I’m ALWAYS inspired to hone my skills and become better at what I do. I really enjoy running my own business – and, whilst it’s certainly demanding of my time and energy, it never really feels like work. I delight in helping people better themselves – something I’m lucky enough to do each and every day. I feel that GymHippie is what I was always meant to do – and I’d love to share it with you!
